Collegiate Learning Assessment (CLA) for Fall 2008

Fall 2008 Only

The Collegial Learning Assessment (CLA), an intiative of the Office of University Evaluation, is part of ASU's effort to assess its success in helping students develop critical thinking, reading and writing skills through the undergraduate curriculum.

In Fall 2008, the Writing Programs are contributing to this effort by allowing the Office of University Evaluation to implement the CLA through the first-year composition courses, including ENG 101, 102, 105, 107, 108 and 111 as well as WAC 101 and 107 (including hybrid and online sections).

The syllabus for each of these courses should include a one-page information on the CLA, provided by the Office of University Evaluation. An electronic copy is also available on this page (ASURITE login required).

The CLA is designed to assess the undergraduate curriculum at ASU as a whole, not specific programs, courses or individuals. The results of the CLA will in no way affect student grades or teacher evaluations in these Writing Programs courses.

Students: Please note that writing teachers or the Writing Programs Office will not be able to answer any questions about the CLA.

If you have any questions about the CLA--its purpose, design, procedures or results, please contact the Office of University Evaluations by email (asu.cla@asu.edu) or by phone (480-965-0140), or visit http://asu.edu/oue/cla.html.
